There, I fixed it. Think about the media headlines

There, I fixed it. Think about the media headlines surrounding our athletes' accomplishments too. This is damaging - first, it blames Simone Biles for the loss of the gold, and second, insinuates that the other members of the team were secondary and diminishes their talent and pure amazing athleticism in their own right.

I have a lot of big thoughts on athlete mental health and today’s news has triggered those. Head over to my FB page to read more - too much for IG. 😉

Such a great image! So often we don’t understand why our teens aren’t doing something!

Could it be that they have some ND tendencies that are creating invisible barriers? I know this was the case for me, but I was identified at lazy or difficult because what was going on in my head wasn’t understood by my parents and teachers.

When athlete are disconnected from their sports, ND athletes may also encounter these challenges and be unable to move on.

Regardless of the situation, it’s as frustrating to the teen as it is to the adult. They don’t understand why they can’t do what others can without effort. The ND brain is weird - and I can say that from personal experience.

If we get some who who “speaks”
ADHD and ND to help, then often our teens can start seeing their path. It’s not going to look like mine or yours, but my ND brain might be able to understand it better.

If we dismiss the struggle, it can lead to anxiety, depression, self harming, and other fallouts of feeling unseen.

Coaching can help. We can chat about their reality, look at how nutrition and movement can support change, and give teens a space to feel seen and reveal their path to BECOME their true selves.

𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀

𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗢𝗠𝗦.

She had a big weekend - her first soccer tournament followed by a birthday party at a venue featuring a LOT of active movement. She's a little perplexed by the soreness that has descended on her.

𝘐'𝘮 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘰𝘢𝘥 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘶𝘱 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘕𝘚𝘈𝘐𝘋𝘴, 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯. NSAIDs can wreak havoc on the gut and actually cause more issues if we overuse them.

𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙙, 𝙄'𝙢 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙞-𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙛𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙙𝙞𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙮. We started with a little 𝘛𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘺 𝘑𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘦, & I'm going to sneak in some 𝘉𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 and maybe some 𝘉𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘙𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘑𝘶𝘪𝘤𝘦 powder into a smoothie later. Maybe even a little 𝘛𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤. 😉

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗢𝗠𝗦 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 & 𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝘞𝘦'𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘥𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘤𝘭𝘦𝘴 and make sure she's not spending too much time glued to that tablet today. 𝙎𝙝𝙚'𝙨 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙜, 𝙗𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙘𝙝 𝙞𝙨 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩(𝙬)𝙚𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡.

I got this email from one of the teachers with who I work. 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸. According to her, she'll be competing for about 6 days over the course of the event.

𝙒𝙝𝙤 𝙠𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜?

𝘐 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘮𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘭𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘢 𝘣𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴. And before you argue about the technicalities of Horseshoe throwing being a sport, I do want you to think about the physical and mental demands of this game compounded by six days. Oh yeah, that body will be feeling it and the mental pressure is there!

𝗕𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗮𝗵-𝘀𝗵𝗮𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
🤨 Is it because it's not what you had in mind?

𝙎𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮, 𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙥𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙨.

Even her expressing interest in trying something new is so amazing & you just don't want to do anything to discourage that forward progress. Maybe even offer to try it out with her.

When I decided to focus on the high jump in high school, my dad made me a high jump pit in our backyard to practice. 𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘺 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴.

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝘀.

Who knows? Your daughter might just be the next big hero of a little-known sport. Just another brag item to potentially add to your list!
